John Ford's landmark Western revolves around an assorted group of colorful passengers aboard the Overland stagecoach bound for Lordsburg, New Mexico, in the 1880s. An alcoholic philosophizer (Thomas Mitchell), a lady of ill repute (Claire Trevor) and a timid liquor salesman (Donald Meek) are among the motley crew of travelers who must contend with an escaped outlaw, the Ringo Kid (John Wayne), and the ever-present threat of an Apache attack as they make their way across the Wild West.

Convict Stage

Outlaw Jeb Sims (Joe Patridge) and his brother, Johnny (Eric Matthews), rob a stagecoach and kill the sister of gunfighter Ben Lattimore (Harry Lauter). Hunting down the killers, Lattimore is shot by their mother. He recovers and pursues the brothers, finding them caught and en route to prison. The marshal escorting them convinces Ben to spare the Sims' lives and help bring them to justice. Unfortunately, the Sims' mother is also on board and armed, plotting to free her boys.

Broken Arrow

For a decade, the white settlers and the Apaches have been engaged in a bloody war with no peaceful end in sight. When a white scout, Tom Jeffords (James Stewart), has a dangerously close but enlightening encounter with the natives, he begins to see the humanity in these enemies. Entering the Apache territory seeking peace, Jeffords forms a friendship with the Apache leader Cochise (Jeff Chandler), although there are people on both sides who resist extending the olive branch.

The Bravados

Four men are sentenced to hang in the small town of Rio Arriba, and Jim Douglass (Gregory Peck) is glad to see it happen. Jim believes the men murdered his wife and wants them to suffer. However, things go awry when the convicts escape from jail, kidnapping young Emma (Kathleen Gallant) as they gallop out of town. A search party forms with Jim in the lead, especially intent on catching them. He encounters each villain individually, growing closer to rescuing Emma and exacting his revenge.

The Long Voyage Home

In the early day of World War II, the crew of English cargo ship the SS Glencairn -- including Swede Olsen (John Wayne), Englishman Smitty (Ian Hunter), American Yank (Ward Bond), and Irishmen Driscoll (Thomas Mitchell) and Cocky (Barry Fitzgerald) -- is sailing from the West Indies to Baltimore. Upon their arrival, their new cargo -- a load of dynamite -- puts the men ill at ease, as does the chance that there may be a Nazi spy on board and the general loneliness of seafaring.
