The Sand Pebbles
In 1926, the USS San Pablo patrols the Yangtze River during the clashes between Chiang Kai-shek's communists and Chinese warlords. Eight-year veteran machinist Jake Holman (Steve McQueen), new to the self-named sand pebbles crew, immediately draws deep suspicion due to his independent streak. Ordered to protect Americans, including schoolteacher Shirley Eckhart (Candice Bergen), Jake and the gunboat crew are unwittingly drawn into a bitter nationalistic feud that holds grim consequences.
The Reivers
In Mississippi at the turn of the 20th century, 11-year-old Lucius McCaslin (Mitch Vogel) embarks on a journey he will remember for years to come. When Lucius' grandfather, Boss (Will Geer), buys an automobile, local handyman Boon (Steve McQueen) chomps at the bit to get behind the wheel. He gets the chance when Boss takes the train on an out-of-town trip. Approaching the impressionable Lucius, Boon is able to talk the youngster into a road trip with him and his friend Ned (Rupert Crosse).
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm
After Rebecca (Shirley Temple) is mistakenly rejected at an audition for a radio advertising campaign, her stepfather takes her upstate to stay at Sunnybrook Farm with her Aunt Miranda (Helen Westley), who bans her from show business. Meanwhile, advertising exec Tony Kent (Randolph Scott) desperately searches for Rebecca, who he has only heard, unaware that she's on the farm next to his. Tony's search is interrupted by many things -- including Rebecca's attractive cousin, Gwen (Gloria Stuart).
Angels in the Outfield
A newspaper reporter, Jennifer Paige (Janet Leigh), is investigating the Pittsburgh Pirates' losing streak. The team is led by manager Guffy McGovern (Paul Douglas), whose swearing and fighting hinder his team's progress. Meanwhile, an orphan named Bridget White (Donna Corcoran) has been praying for the team, and her pleas are answered by an angelic voice. The angel begins urging Guffy to be kinder in return for helping the Pirates win, but the playoffs test the manager's temper.
The Kid From Left Field
Peanut vendor and washed-up baseball player "Coop" Cooper (Dan Dailey) teaches his 9-year-old son, Christy (Billy Chapin), all the game's finer points. When Christy becomes the new bat boy, his suggestions to the players lift the struggling team out of the basement. Owner Fred Whacker (Ray Collins) names Christy the team's head coach as a publicity stunt, changing the lives of everyone, including team secretary Marion Foley (Anne Bancroft) and her third-baseman fiancé (Lloyd Bridges).
Palm Springs Weekend
Love is the game for a group of college students letting loose in Palm Springs, Calif. For basketball player Jim Munroe (Troy Donahue), the attractive Bunny Dixon (Stefanie Powers) quickly becomes the object of his affection. Jim's friend Biff is after the sporty Amanda. As the adults -- including the local police chief, a hotel owner and a basketball coach -- try to keep order, the kids make connections that may, or may not, continue back on campus.

A college chemistry professor, Vernon Simpson (Ray Milland), invents a substance that keeps insects away from wood. But after a baseball crashes through the window and gets coated in the fluid, Simpson discovers that the ball repels wood. To further his experiment, Simpson tries out as a pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals and becomes a master of the screwball, propelling him into the spotlight as a star player, much to the confusion of his fiancée, Deborah (Jean Peters).

Certain she was dying from radium poisoning, Hazel Flagg (Carole Lombard) is delighted to learn from her doctor that it was a false alarm. But when dapper and desperate New York City reporter Wally Cook (Fredric March) shows up looking for a story about a young girl braving terminal illness, Hazel decides that she's sick again. Wally whisks her off to Manhattan, where her supposed courage wins her many admirers. The toast of the town, she falls in love with Wally and dreads being discovered.

John Huston directs this survey course of the Old Testament, which, the title notwithstanding, covers only the first 22 chapters of Genesis. Adam (Michael Parks) and Eve (Ulla Bergryd) frolic in the Garden of Eden until their indulgence in the forbidden fruit sees them driven out. Cain (Richard Harris) murders his brother Abel (Franco Nero), Noah (John Huston) builds an ark to preserve the animals of the world from the coming flood and Abraham (George C. Scott) makes a covenant with God.
