Till the Clouds Roll By

On opening night of his new Broadway musical, Show Boat, composer Jerome Kern (Robert Walker) reflects on his long career. With the help of his mentor, composer James Hessler (Van Heflin), a young Jerry travels to Europe and soon has one of his tunes placed in a successful production. Back home, Jerry's unceasing efforts result in the production of his first show. Jerry's career blossoms and he works with the best artists of the day while guiding James' wayward but talented daughter, Sally.

The House on 92nd Street

In a story based on actual events, Nazi spies in New York City try to recruit German-American college student Bill Dietrich (William Eythe) at the height of World War II. Infiltrating the spy ring, which is headquartered in an East 92nd Street townhouse, Dietrich must contend with the house's beautiful owner (Signe Hasso) and, ultimately, a cache of smuggled atomic secrets that could derail the entire American war effort.

Deft lawyer Thomas Farrell (Robert Taylor) has found himself a role successfully defending the crooked goons of crime boss Rico Angelo (Lee J. Cobb). When Thomas meets glamorous dancer Vicki Gaye (Cyd Charisse), he falls in love with her. Vicki makes Thomas realize that he should stop representing criminals, and he tries to break ties with Angelo. However, the mobster will not let Thomas free and kidnaps Vicki in order to keep the lawyer in his employ.

After witnessing what appears to be a police officer shooting a man in cold blood, detective Johnny Damico (Broderick Crawford) decides to go undercover. Tracing the murder victim to a waterfront crime ring, Damico poses as longshoreman Tim Flynn, and infiltrates the corrupt New York dockworkers union. There he meets union toughs Joe Castro (Ernest Borgnine) and Gunner (Neville Brand), who eventually lead him to crime kingpin Blackie Clegg (Matt Crowley).

Mr. Soft Touch

A World War II veteran, Joe Miracle (Glenn Ford), comes home to find that his nightclub has been taken over by gangsters and his business partner has been killed. After reclaiming the money that is rightfully his, he is forced to hide out in a settlement house due to a case of mistaken identity. There, he befriends the house manager, Jenny Jones (Evelyn Keyes). While being pursued by gangsters and a persistent journalist, Joe learns a valuable lesson about altruism.
