Laurel and Hardy's Laughing '20s
This anthology, compiled by Robert Youngson, presents a series of silent short films from the 1920s starring the celebrated comedy duo of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. In these early collaborations, Hardy plays an uncle embarrassed by the kilt of his Scottish nephew (Stan Laurel), and later the duo portrays a pair of inept butlers at a socialite's lavish dinner. The collection also features films by lesser-known silent comedians including Charley Chase and Max Davidson.
Divorce American Style
Suburban couple Richard Harmon (Dick Van Dyke) and his wife, Barbara (Debbie Reynolds), have exhausted their patience in their marriage. Bored and no closer to fixing their problems through counseling, the couple opts to divorce, and the proceeding tug-of-war over children, money and possessions reveals that maintaining their marriage was far easier than ending it. Along the way are attempts for both at new relationships, with the subject of alimony playing a hidden role in matters.

In a Lonely Place
Hollywood screenwriter Dixon Steele (Humphrey Bogart) and his neighbor Laurel (Gloria Grahame) are just getting to know each other romantically when the police begin questioning Dixon about his involvement in the murder of a girl he met once. Certain her new love interest is innocent, Laurel stands by Dixon, but as the police continue pressing him, Dixon begins to act increasingly erratically. The blossoming love affair suffers as Laurel begins to wonder if Dixon really might be a killer.
Road House
At a seedy nightclub and bowling alley near the Canadian border, owner Jefty Robbins (Richard Widmark) is in love with his new cabaret singer, Lily Stevens (Ida Lupino), who only has eyes for Jefty's best friend, bar manager Pete Morgan (Cornel Wilde). Although he tries to keep his distance, Pete soon falls for Lily's charms. But when the couple tries to run away together, Jefty and jealous cashier Susie Smith (Celeste Holm) conspire to frame them for a crime they didn't commit.
A Woman's Face
Anna Holm (Joan Crawford) is a terribly disfigured Swedish woman and small-time criminal in Stockholm. Her terrible luck and resulting emotional tumult have left her unable to sustain relationships and ultimately pushes her to a life of blackmailing schemes and ennui. A young doctor (Melvyn Douglas) gives her the opportunity to regain some semblance of beauty and, with it, a chance at love. Will she be able to come to terms with her past and embrace a second chance at happiness?

Having pulled himself out of the poverty and squalor of a big city slum, idealist lawyer Andrew Morton (Humphrey Bogart) agrees to defend a young juvenile delinquent from his old neighborhood. Nick Romano (John Derek), the son of an innocent man Morton had unsuccessfully defended as a young lawyer years earlier, stands accused of murdering a policeman. In opposition to a law-and-order prosecutor (George Macready), Morton argues that Nick's deprived upbringing led to his life of crime.
Flamingo Road
Dancer Lane Bellamy (Joan Crawford) tours with a carnival, but is deserted in Bolton City when they flee to avoid their debts. Deputy Fielding Carlisle (Zachary Scott) arrives and, secretly smitten with her, helps Lane find employment as a waitress. However, scheming Sheriff Titus Semple's (Sydney Greenstreet) ambitious plans for Fielding to become a rep in the state legislature do not include his dating an itinerant woman, so he runs her out of town. Lane seeks revenge, but at what cost?

Worried that he can't support his pregnant wife, Ellen (Cathy O'Donnell), on his meager income as a mailman, Joe Norson (Farley Granger) impulsively swipes $30,000 from the office of sleazy attorney Victor Backett (Edmon Ryan). But when Joe's bartender pal, Nick (Ed Max), takes off with the ill-gotten cash, Joe finds himself trapped in a chain of double-crosses and misunderstandings, hunted by both Backett's murderous henchman, Georgie (James Craig), and the New York City police.
