Castle on the Hudson
Egocentric gangster Tommy Gordon (John Garfield) thinks he's so above the law that even when he's sent to Sing Sing, he's sure he'll be in line for special treatment. Slowly, and painfully, he realizes that his fellow hoods on the outside want him on the inside. Tommy is slowly rehabilitated by a caring warden (Pat O'Brien), who even grants him a day-release to visit his hospitalized girlfriend, Kay (Ann Sheridan). But when Tommy bumps into a bitter rival (Jerome Cowan), trouble looms.
Nobody Lives Forever
Nick Blake (John Garfield) is a former con man who has just returned to the United States after fighting in World War II. While he wants to give up the con game and go legit, he's convinced into working one last scheme with fellow con men Pop Gruber (Walter Brennan) and Doc Ganson (George Coulouris). The two want Nick to use his skills to cheat the rich widow Gladys Halvorsen (Geraldine Fitzgerald) out of her fortune. But the plan backfires when Nick falls in love with Gladys.

Londoner Harry Fabian (Richard Widmark) is a second-rate con man looking for an angle. After years of putting up with Harry's schemes, his girlfriend, Mary (Gene Tierney), becomes fed up when he taps her for yet another loan. His latest ploy, promoting an aging Greek wrestler, goes awry when the wrestler dies and everyone points the finger at Harry. Hiding out in a riverfront barge, Harry sees his grand ambitions spiral into a nightmare of fear and desperation as the underworld closes in.

Glamorous starlet Vicky Lynn (Carole Landis) is murdered, and the cops want to pin the killing on her manager, fast-talking Frankie Christopher (Victor Mature). But the more Vicky's sensible sister, Jill (Betty Grable), finds out about Frankie, the less she suspects him of the crime. As Jill and Frankie fall in love, the detective in charge of the case (Laird Cregar) develops a morbid obsession with punishing Frankie, leading to a shocking conclusion.

After unlikely supermodel Vicki Lynn (Jean Peters) is killed, Steve Christopher (Elliott Reid), the press agent who was responsible for her wild popularity and success, is falsely accused of her murder. The lead detective knows the identity of the killer, but continues to blame Steve out of jealousy, as he was madly in love with the late beauty. With the help of Vicki's sister Jill (Jeanne Crain), Steve must prove his innocence before it's too late.

When noted gambler Alfred "Gloves" Donahue (Humphrey Bogart) makes a trip to his local bakery to see why his cheesecake hasn't been delivered, he sees nightclub singer Leda Hamilton (Kaaren Verne) leaving the bakery, and finds that his favorite baker has been murdered. Donahue becomes the prime suspect in the case, so he has to take matters into his own hands to clear his name. Things take a shocking turn when he discovers that a Nazi spy ring may have had a hand in the poor baker's death.
