International Swimming LeagueThe International Swimming League (ISL) is a professional swim league with competing teams from across the world. It has been running since 2019 and involves teams from the United States, Europe, and Japan. The objective of the ISL is to promote competitive swimming as both a sport and an entertainment, and to create a unique and engaging viewing experience for swim fans, viewers, and athletes through innovative and advanced media production.
The ISL consists of seven teams, with each team having international swimmers from around the world. Some of the popular teams include the Cali Condors from the United States, the Tokyo Frog Kings from Japan, and the Team Iron from the United Kingdom. As a professional swimming league, the ISL features many well-known athletes, including Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, three-time Olympic medalist Chad Le Clos, and World Record holders Caeleb Dressel and Dmitriy Balandin.
The regular season of the ISL consists of 4 competitions. Each competition requires teams to compete in a variety of swim Meet formats including FINA style relays, 25m pool races, and head-to-head match races. During the regular season, teams earn points and bonuses for their performance throughout the season. At the end of the regular season, the top four teams, based on total points, qualify for the playoff rounds.
The ISL playoffs feature a single round of competition where the top four teams compete head-to-head. The team who accumulates the most points after this final round of competition is declared the International Swimming League Champion. Additionally, the winning team is awarded a large portion of the ISL prize money, with the rest divided among the other top teams.
Since its founding, the ISL has seen great success in promoting and expanding the reach of competitive swimming. During the 2019-2020 season, the opening match-up between Tokyo and Team Iron was watched by 4.7 million people online and it was reported that the overall viewing audience for the entire league was over 25 million. The ISL's talented athletes and its commitment to providing innovative and immersive viewing experiences will continue to draw swimmers and fans from all over the globe.
