College Basketball, also known as NCAA Basketball, is the highest level of basketball competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States. College Basketball teams are made up of student-athletes attending institutions of higher education in the United States. It is one of the most popular sports in the country, with some of the most renowned NCAA Basketball teams including Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Syracuse, and Louisville. College Basketball is noted for its competitive intensity and passion that the student-athletes exhibit. Each NCAA Basketball season consists of a regular season with each team playing approximately 3-4 conferences games and 20-25 games outside of the conference. The season is then capped off with the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, commonly referred to as the “Big Dance” or the “March Madness”, where 68 teams compete in single-elimination bracket to determine the Division I National Champion. This tournament remains one of the most popular sporting events in the United States and is often the most “bet on” event of the year in the US. NCAA Basketball has a long and rich history dating back to its first recorded game in 1892 and only getting more popular as the years went on. Some of the big names that have graced the NCAA Basketball courts over the years include: Lew Alcindor (renamed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once converted to Islam), Bill Walton, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James; to name a few. Overall, college basketball continues to remain one of the most popular sports in the US, with intense rivalries and passion for the sport fueling the culture of the competition. NCAA Basketball season excites fans and players alike every year, as they hope for a sweet victory in the tournament and the chance to take home a National Championship.

The Governors (1-0) head into Hinkle Fieldhouse to square off with the Bulldogs (1-0). Butler began the campaign with a grinding 72-65 victory over Missouri State on Nov. 4. Canadian forward Jahmyl Telfort (BUT) filled the statsheet with 29 points.

Tennessee at Louisville

The No. 12 Volunteers visit the Cardinals in a clash of power conference programs. Each won its opener against a mid-major. Tennessee topped Gardner-Webb 80-64. Louisville routed Morehead State 93-45 in Pat Kelsey's first game as Cardinals coach.

Fordham at Seton Hall

New York metropolitan area programs in the Pirates and Rams reunite. Fordham leads 29-27 in a series that started in 1912. Seton Hall won its season opener, 57-53 over New Jersey rival Saint Peter's. Fordham lost to NYC rival St. John's 92-60.

Quinnipiac at St. John's

The Red Storm face the Bobcats. Four starters scored 12 points or more as St. John's began the season with a 92-60 triumph over Fordham on Nov. 4. SJU prevailed in the only previous meeting with Quinnipiac, 97-60 at Madison Square Garden in 2001.

Fairfield at Georgetown

The Hoyas welcome the Stags to the nation's capital for a clash. Georgetown won three straight contests against Fairfield from 2005-2007. Australian forward Louis Bleechmore led Fairfield with 13 points in a season-opening 96-58 loss to Rhode Island.

Stonehill at Providence

NCAAM

Providence hosts Stonehill in a battle of New England schools located some 30 miles apart. The Friars have won all five meetings, the last 100-76 in 2022. Providence survived Central Connecticut 59-55 in its opener behind Bensley Joseph's 21 points.

The No. 25 Scarlet Knights kick off their campaign by hosting the Seahawks at Jersey Mike's Arena. Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell boasts one of the top-ranked freshman classes in the country, led by small forward Ace Bailey and guard Dylan Harper.

Sacred Heart at Connecticut

For the second straight year, Dan Hurley and No. 3 UConn raise a banner in this opener with Sacred Heart. In 2023-24, the Huskies successfully defended their 2022-23 title by going 37-3 and claimed their sixth NCAA Tournament crown since 1999.

Lehigh at Georgetown

Ed Cooley continues to rebuild the Hoyas as they begin the season by hosting the Mountain Hawks. Cooley's first year after moving from Providence to Georgetown ended with a 9-23 record and a loss to Cooley's former school in the Big East Tournament.

Columbia at Villanova

The Lions link up with the Wildcats. Villanova's offseason reset included luring Wooga Poplar, who averaged 13.1 points per game in 2023-24, from Miami. Nova also added Enoch Boakye (Fresno State), Jhamir Brickus (La Salle) and Tyler Perkins (Penn).

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at Indiana

The No. 17 Hoosiers try to put 2023-24 behind them as they host the Cougars. Indiana rebuilt after a 19-14 campaign under Mike Woodson, and brought in transfers Oumar Ballo (Arizona), Kanaan Carlyle (Stanford) and Myles Rice (Washington State).

Texas-Rio Grande Valley at Creighton

The Vaqueros face the No. 15 Bluejays. In 2023-24, Creighton reached the 20-win plateau for the ninth straight season and advanced to the Sweet 16. Three-time defending Big East DPOY Ryan Kalkbrenner returns for a fifth season with the Jays.
