College Basketball, also known as NCAA Basketball, is the highest level of basketball competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States. College Basketball teams are made up of student-athletes attending institutions of higher education in the United States. It is one of the most popular sports in the country, with some of the most renowned NCAA Basketball teams including Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Syracuse, and Louisville. College Basketball is noted for its competitive intensity and passion that the student-athletes exhibit. Each NCAA Basketball season consists of a regular season with each team playing approximately 3-4 conferences games and 20-25 games outside of the conference. The season is then capped off with the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, commonly referred to as the “Big Dance” or the “March Madness”, where 68 teams compete in single-elimination bracket to determine the Division I National Champion. This tournament remains one of the most popular sporting events in the United States and is often the most “bet on” event of the year in the US. NCAA Basketball has a long and rich history dating back to its first recorded game in 1892 and only getting more popular as the years went on. Some of the big names that have graced the NCAA Basketball courts over the years include: Lew Alcindor (renamed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once converted to Islam), Bill Walton, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James; to name a few. Overall, college basketball continues to remain one of the most popular sports in the US, with intense rivalries and passion for the sport fueling the culture of the competition. NCAA Basketball season excites fans and players alike every year, as they hope for a sweet victory in the tournament and the chance to take home a National Championship.

Army at Duke

The No. 7 Blue Devils host the Black Knights. Five-star freshman Cooper Flagg debuted for Duke with 18 points in a win over Maine, which is just down the road from Cooper's hometown of Newport. Flagg is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.

IU-Indianapolis at Xavier

The Musketeers share the court with the Jaguars. Xavier won its season opener 78-69 over Texas Southern. Musketeers senior Zach Freemantle, who missed the entire 2023-24 season recovering from foot surgery, had a 19-point double-double in his return.

Boston College vs VCU

The Rams (1-0) and Eagles (1-0) hit the court for the Veterans Classic at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md. This is the second time the schools have met on a neutral court after VCU defeated Boston College 69-50 at the Barclays Center on Dec. 28, 2013.

Maryland-Baltimore County at Penn State

The Retrievers run into University Park, Pa., for a game with the Nittany Lions. Zach Hicks scored 22 points to help Penn State beat Binghamton 108-66 in its season opener. Maryland-Baltimore County comes off a 95-66 win over Penn State-York.

Austin Peay State at Butler

The Governors (1-0) head into Hinkle Fieldhouse to square off with the Bulldogs (1-0). Butler began the campaign with a grinding 72-65 victory over Missouri State on Nov. 4. Canadian forward Jahmyl Telfort (BUT) filled the statsheet with 29 points.

North Carolina at Kansas

No. 9 North Carolina plays fellow blue blood No. 1 Kansas. The Jayhawks have won the past four meetings. That run includes March Madness triumphs in 2008, 2012 and 2013, in addition to a national title earned during the last get-together in 2022.

Grambling State at Ole Miss

The Tigers try their luck against the No. 24 Rebels. Ole Miss started the new season by smashing Long Island University 90-60 on Nov. 4. Bronx, N.Y., native Jaylen Murray poured in 24 points in the victory. Ole Miss went 14-4 at home in 2024-25.

Rider at UCLA

Rider takes on No. 22 UCLA. The Bruins come off just their fifth season below the .500 mark since 1950 after sputtering to a 16-17 mark. UCLA welcomes senior guard Kobe Johnson from rival USC in a rare crosstown move, as well as five other transfers.

Danny Sprinkle begins his tenure as the Huskies' head coach by hosting the Aggies. Sprinkle moved to Washington from Utah State. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Great Osobor, who averaged 17.7 points per game in 2023-24, joined Sprinkle.

Maine at Duke

No. 7 Duke starts a 17th consecutive season ranked inside the AP Top 10 as it hosts Maine. Five-star recruit Cooper Flagg debuts for the Blue Devils. The Newport, Maine, native is widely expected to be selected first in the upcoming 2025 NBA draft.

Elon at North Carolina

The No. 9 Tar Heels kick off another campaign at the Dean Smith Center by hosting the Phoenix. North Carolina went 29-8 last season and fell in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet Sixteen to Alabama. UNC bid farewell to graduated star forward Armando Bacot.
