The season typically runs from early April to early September. During this period, teams will play a series of short series against opponents within their respective divisions. At the end of the regular season, the team with the best overall record in each division will advance to the playoffs to compete for the League Championship. The winner of the Championship will then generally receive an automatic invitation to compete in the larger Minor League Baseball championship tournament-the League Championship Series.
