Minor League Baseball dates back to 1901, starting with the founding of the Western League, followed by the American Association and the Eastern League - each of which are still active today and considered the “Triple-A” level of the Minor League Baseball System. Minor League Baseball is the collective term for all the organizations that are affiliated with the 30 major league baseball teams. They encompass 227 teams across 8 leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Minor League Baseball teams have a unique fan culture that combine affordable or even free tickets with an old-fashioned style of rooting for the home team. In Minor League Baseball, teams are grouped by their talent and experience level in 8 affiliated leagues with 7 separate classifications: Triple-A, Double-A, Class A-Advanced, Class A, Class A-Short Season, Rookie Advanced, and Rookie. While there is no set number of teams in each league, the number of teams typically ranges from 15-30. Minor League Baseball is known for its relaxed stadium atmosphere and exciting players. Fans have the opportunity to watch many well-known current players such as Aaron Judge, Jorge Mateo, Miguel Andujar, and Clint Frazier in the minors before they make it to the majors. The season typically runs from early April to early September. During this period, teams will play a series of short series against opponents within their respective divisions. At the end of the regular season, the team with the best overall record in each division will advance to the playoffs to compete for the League Championship. The winner of the Championship will then generally receive an automatic invitation to compete in the larger Minor League Baseball championship tournament-the League Championship Series. Stats and records of minor league baseball date back to the Tennessee-Alabama League in 1901. At the start of the 2019 season, the total number of Minor League Baseball players was estimated at 8,561 and they represented all 50 states and countries from all over the world. In 2019, Minor League Baseball in the US had an attendance of 41,211,509 - the 3rd highest to date and the 5th consecutive year of exceeding 41 million fans.
