NHLThe National Hockey League (NHL) is a winter pro ice hockey league, founded on November 26, 1917 in Montreal, Canada. The league once consisted of only six teams in the US and Canada, with the original six teams being the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Rangers. Although there have been several expansions over the years, the original six teams remain in the league. Today, the NHL consists of 31 teams, including 24 in the US and seven in Canada, and is considered to be one of the premier professional ice hockey leagues in the world.
The NHL season consists of 162 games per regular season, where teams battle to get the coveted Stanley Cup and represent their country in the playoffs. The playoffs begin after the regular season ends and feature 16 teams competing for the Stanley Cup. During playoffs, the format is a best-of-seven series for each playoffs round.
The most popular players in the current season include struggling Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs; big name Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues; Russian Magician Evgeni Malkin from the Pittsburgh Penguins; Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers; and multi-talented Patrice Bergeron from the Boston Bruins.
The NHL has several prestigious awards each season, including Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player displaying excellence each season; the Calder Memorial Trophy, given to the top rookie player; the Ted Lindsay Award, chosen by the players themselves to recognize the best player each year; and the James Norris Memorial Trophy, given to the top defenseman in the league.
Hockey's history with the NHL dates back to the early 1900s, and its history is present to this day in the form of records and statistics. Some of the most iconic records in hockey against teams include the Detroit Red Wings with most consecutive seasons with at least one player scoring 90 points; the Montreal Canadiens with the most Stanley Cup Championships (24); and the Toronto Maple Leafs with the most consecutive playoff appearances (29). During the 2020-2021 season, Edmonton Oilers superstar, Connor McDavid, broke a long-standing NHL record of Hart Trophy winners scoring more than 120 points with his 126 points.

Calgary Flames at St. Louis BluesNHLThe Blues try for a season sweep of the Flames. St. Louis has won 10 of the last 12 meetings after claiming a pair in Alberta earlier this season by a combined 7-3 score. Nick Leddy (STL) has a goal and three assists versus Calgary in 2023-24.
Philadelphia Flyers at Montreal CanadiensNHLThe Flyers make the first of two trips to La Belle Province in under two weeks when they take on the Canadiens. Philadelphia erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 3-2 extra-time win Jan. 10. Flyers captain Sean Couturier scored the shootout winner.
Vegas Golden Knights at Winnipeg JetsNHLThe Jets continue a five-game homestand by trying to solve the Golden Knights. Vegas has won six straight meetings, a run that started in the 2023 playoffs. Jonathan Marchessault (VGK) has four goals in two contests against Winnipeg this season.
Dallas Stars at Vancouver CanucksNHLThe Canucks near the end of an extended homestand when they host the Stars. Dallas snapped a seven-game series skid versus Vancouver with an overtime victory earlier this season. Matt Duchene (DAL) netted the OT winner in that 4-3 decision.
Los Angeles Kings at Edmonton OilersNHLConnor McDavid and the Oilers return to their happy place to play the Pacific Division rival Kings. Edmonton is 23-8-3 at home after earning a point in seven such games. McDavid has 17 goals and 73 points in 33 contests at Rogers Place this season.

Winnipeg Jets at Washington CapitalsNHLThe Jets end a five-game Eastern Conference road trip by visiting the Capitals. Winnipeg halted a four-match slide against Washington on March 11 with a 3-0 triumph. Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 23 Caps shots for his fourth shutout of the season.
Calgary Flames at Chicago BlackhawksNHLThe Blackhawks try to regain their grip on the Flames. Calgary snapped a four-game series slide with a 1-0 victory in January. Chicago has won three of its last four at home. Blackhawks star rookie Connor Bedard piled up 10 points in those victories.
Boston Bruins at Tampa Bay LightningNHLThe Lightning and the Bruins wrap up their season series. Tampa Bay has claimed two of three meetings in 2023-24, but both clubs have earned four points with Boston going 1-0-2. David Pastrnak (BOS) racked up six points in the previous contests.
