The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is the governing body for women’s college soccer and consists of three divisions: Division I, Division II, and Division III. The regular season starts in mid-August with games taking place at home venues throughout the country. Each team plays around 20 regular season games, with Division I teams playing a mix of conference games and non-conference games. At the end of the regular season, teams with the best records qualify for the Playoffs and the championship tournament. Division I teams begin post season play with a single elimination tournament. The winner then advances to the College Cup, where teams compete for the National Championship.

Since then, the sport has grown from a modest 20 teams in 1909 to over 14,000 teams and hundreds of thousands of athletes today. A number of all-time records have been set over the years, including most goals in a season, most goals in a game, most assists in a season, and longest winning streak.
