NASCAR Craftsman Truck SeriesNASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (sometimes called NCTS) is a professional stock car racing series owned and operated by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). It is one of three national divisions of NASCAR, alongside the NASCAR Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. The series has been active since 1995, when the competition was established to bridge the gap between the stock car racing and off-road truck racing. The series consists of 23 races run over a period of three months from early June to mid-September. The races themselves take place on tracks located within the United States and Canada. The races feature a variety of formats, from road courses to short ovals. The Truck Series is the most popular and competitive of all three NASCAR series, with a regular field of thirty-thre participants. The competitors in the series are primarily talented drivers from other motorsport backgrounds, including off-road and rally driving, as well as various circuit racing series. Each driver handles their own equipment with the support of a full-time pit crew. Race venues typically feature modified pickups from major manufacturers on a ‘spec’ chassis. The vehicles are typically much larger and heavier than other forms of American motor racing. At the end of the season, the top eight drivers in the Championship Standings qualify for the playoffs. The playoffs consist of four rounds of three races each, and culminates with the Ford EcoBoost 200 held at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The regular-season winner is rewarded with a berth in the final race, and the winner of the Truck Series Championship also receives the Craftsman Truck Series championship title. The early years of the series saw various drivers and teams claim NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series titles. Mike Skinner was the first overall champion, and went on to become the series' most successful driver with three championships, followed by Ron Hornaday Jr on four. More recently, drivers such as Erik Jones, William Byron, Matt Crafton and Johnny Sauter have achieved success in the series. The drivers in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series fight for various accolades throughout the year. In addition to the championship, drivers have the chance to win the championship points fund as well as a winner's share of any particular race prize money. The series has seen a variety of competitors, from grizzled veterans to young up-and-comers, and continues to entertain fans across the country.
