It was established in 1998 and is contested by 12 teams. The 2021–22 season will be the 24th season since it was first introduced. Over the years, the record for the most goals scored in one season was achieved by Celtic in 2010–11, when they scored a remarkable 103 goals. The record for the fewest goals conceded was set by Rangers in the 2018–19 season, with only 18 goals conceded in 33 games.
