IndyCar RacingIndyCar racing is a form of auto racing which has grown into one of the most competitive, exciting and popular motorsport events in the world. It is an open-wheel racing championship series which currently features 16 events, most of which are held in the United States. The IndyCar Series is sanctioned and administered by INDYCAR, a member of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. IndyCar racing now features some of the world’s premier drivers, including four-time champion Scott Dixon, three-time champion Josef Newgarden, twice winner Alexander Rossi, Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato and three-time champion Simon Pagenaud. The IndyCar series is contested over a 17-race season, which is split into two parts; the north American circuit and a championship event in COTA. The season consists of seven oval events, four on permanent road courses, four street circuits and the legendary Indianapolis 500. The championship event is at Circuit of the Americas. Points are awarded for each place in the race and the driver with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the overall series champion. With just one point difference separating the top three drivers in the championship, it promises to be an exciting finale. The most famous race of the IndyCar Championship is the Indianapolis 500, a 200-lap race held each May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. The Indy 500 is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious motor races and has run since 1911. At the culmination of the regular season seven drivers qualify for the post-season series, the Chase for the Championship. The top two will race in the finale, the Grand Prix of Sonoma, where the driver with the most points from the Chase races will take home the championship. IndyCar is a thrilling and competitive motorsport series full of dramatic highs and lows, with a rich history of fierce competition. Once dubbed ‘the fastest sport on wheels’, it continues to attract some of the greatest drivers in the world.
