LPGA Tour Golf
The LPGA Tour is the most prominent professional golf tour for female golfers, organized by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). It was officially established in 1950 as the first professional golf tour for women. Today, the LPGA is the world’s leading professional women’s golf tour, and it boasts close to 2,700 members from around the world. In addition to the regular tournament schedule, the LPGA also hosts smaller events such as the CME Group Tour Championship and the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Each year, the LPGA Tour holds a season-long points race, known as the Race to the CME Globe, which determines the eventual tour champion. The CME Group Tour Championship is the grand finale of the LPGA Tour and is typically held in November each year. During the regular LPGA Tour season, players compete for rankings points and bonuses which determine the season-ending prize money. Many events in the tour have either a limited field or require an invitation for entry, meaning that the best players in the world are typically on the leaderboard. Throughout its 70-plus year history, the LPGA Tour has hosted numerous historic tournaments, including the U.S. Women's Open, the ANA Inspiration, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and the Solheim Cup. The tour’s most recent major event, the Evian Championship, was added to the schedule in 2019, giving the LPGA Tour five majors each season. The most successful players on the LPGA Tour are known as “TLP” (Top LPGA Professionals). These players combine consistency with a high level of skill to propel them to the top of the standings. Current TLP stars include Inbee Park, Lydia Ko, and Lexi Thompson. Other top LPGA Tour players include Ariya Jutanugarn, Brooks Koepka, and Minjee Lee. The popularity of the LPGA Tour has become increasingly international in recent years, with growing numbers of Asian players joining the ranks. This in turn has helped to increase the overall talent level as well as the scope of the tour. With the additional media coverage and an increasingly direct way of making the product relevant to a younger generation, the LPGA Tour shows no signs of slowing down. The LPGA Tour is a major driver of economic success for female golfers worldwide. From the U.S. Women's Open to the Evian Championship, the tournament purses on the LPGA Tour are among the highest in all professional women's sports. Along with the money come trophies, rankings points, and career acclaim for the world’s best female golfers. The LPGA Tour is helping to revolutionize the sport and promote the sport to new audiences around the globe.
