NASCAR Racing
NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is the premier sanctioning body for the sport of stock car racing in the United States and one of the most popular forms of motorsport in the world. Founded in 1948 by Bill France, Sr., NASCAR has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry with over 75 million fans worldwide. In the United States, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is considered the premier series and currently consists of four levels of racing; the Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Camping World Truck, and Whelen Modified Tour. All four series participate in a points system and culminates in a Chase for the Cup Playoffs. Top drivers across all four series compete for the season-ending championship and a chance to become the champion of NASCAR. The Sprint Cup, which is the primary series, consists of 36 races spread out over 10 months, with a season finale at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in November. The races are held on oval tracks of various sizes and configurations. The competition is divided into three stages: the regular season, the playoffs, and the championship finale. Each race is worth points, and the points each driver accumulates throughout the season determine the overall championship standings. The Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series championships are determined by a traditional points-based system, and the Whelen Modified Tour is determined by a combination of points and wins. Each level includes several highly competitive teams, featuring some of the most popular drivers in the sport today. Popular current drivers include the likes of Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon. Historically, NASCAR has been recognized as America’s premier motorsports series, hosting some of the most iconic tracks in the US such as the legendary Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. As the sport has evolved, NASCAR now hosts races all over the world in places like Canada, Mexico, and Australia. With more popular talent competing and an ever-growing international fan base, the future of NASCAR looks promising.
