PGA Tour Golf The PGA Tour is a nonprofit organization which is the world's premier golf tour. It is made up of more than 200 member clubs and produces more than 100 tournaments throughout the year. The tour initially began in the United States in the early 20th century, and now its events are held on all six continents around the world. The organization sanctions the major golf championships including the Masters, The Open Championship, the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. Additionally, it sanctions more than 80 amateur and professional tournaments, which are the major championships in the United States. The PGA Tour features more than 250 players from over 30 countries around the world. Some of the most well known players on tour include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson. The season is made up of tournaments throughout the year, beginning with three tournaments taking place in Hawaii and Australia in January. The season culminates with the PGA Tour Playoffs, which typically include four events, ending in the Tour Championship. Winning events earns players FedEx Cup points, which accumulate throughout the YEason and rank players on the FedEx Cup points list. The points are determined based on finish position, the size of the event, and the number of players in the event. The top players at the end of the season are then invited to compete in the Tour Championship in August. The current title of defending champion for 2018 belongs to 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed. Since its inception in the early 20th century, the PGA Tour has seen numerous tournaments, such as the Players Championship, the FedEx Cup, the Tour Championship, and majors such as the U.S. Open or the Masters. The PGA Tour is also known for hosting the Ryder Cup every two years, a premier golf event consisting of teams from the United States and Europe.
