Turkish Süper Lig is the top tier professional football league in Turkey. The league contains eighteen teams and plays a double round-robin season, with each team playing every other team twice, once at their home stadium and once away. The season runs from August to May, the last three teams in the league table are relegated and replaced by the top three teams from the 1. Lig, the second tier.\n\nThe top three teams by the end of the season qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage, while fourth and fifth place teams enter the UEFA Europa League first and second qualifying rounds respectively. The league winner is also given the Turkish Cup, which is the most important domestic trophy in Turkish football.\n\nThe Süper Lig has traditionally had some of the best Turkish football clubs such as Beşiktaş, Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Trabzonspor. Every season there is no shortage of talent as Süper Lig attracts some of the best players from Turkey including stalwart veterans such as Burak Yılmaz and Emre Belözoğlu, the ever-lethal finisher Cenk Tosun and the dazzling Hakan Çalhanoğlu.\n\nNow in its 63rd season, the Süper Lig is established as one of Europe’s best football leagues with an average attendance of 17,973 at its 2018-19 matches. Turkish Clubs have been performing well in European competitions as well, with Galatasaray creating history in 2000 by becoming the first Turkish club to win a UEFA title in the form of the UEFA Cup. \n\nThe Turkish Süper Lig is a league full of passionate football and plenty of star power.
