"The working man's bank" is always willing to make a deal. That's why for the people of Detroit, the go-to pawn shop for more than four decades has been American Jewelry and Loan. This series follows its day-to-day operations, focusing on third-generation pawnbroker and company patriarch Les Gold, a street-smart old-schooler known for driving a hard bargain but having a soft heart. The family business also includes Seth, Les' only son and business partner; daughter Ashley, the shop's general manager; and Les' wife, Lili. But there's no question who the boss is, and he's often heard reminding his team of more than 45 employees, "The customer always lies."
You won't hear the phrase "free shipping" uttered in this real-life series. It follows heavy-duty movers as they battle for the chance to transport items that traditional carriers won't touch, from bulky loads such as a Civil War cannon to bizarre items like a water buffalo. The competition begins each day when thousands of shipments are put up for auction online, and the truckers who make the lowest bids get the loads. It's a high-stakes game, figuring out what shipments are worth the time and money to move them, but the bottom line is these haulers -- rookies and seasoned vets alike -- will deliver anything if the price is right.
Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman deal in rusty gold. The proprietors of Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas buy, restore and resell forgotten, derelict American cars, everything from 1931 Model A cars to '73 Trans Ams. As "Fast N' Loud" shows, Rawlings is the mastermind, a deal-maker with an eye for relics worth their efforts, and to find them the guys search barns, fields and auctions across the U.S. Kaufman manages most restorations. He's a fabricator and self-taught mechanic, whose techniques and design skills first endeared him to Rawlings and kick-started the partnership. At the end of Season 12, that partnership ended when Kaufman exited Gas Monkey, leaving Rawlings as the series' sole star.
Fishing for bluefin tuna is a way of life for many residents of Gloucester, Mass. "Wicked Tuna" takes viewers into the unrelenting North Atlantic waters infamously spotlighted by the novel-turned-feature film "The Perfect Storm," to follow captains who are relied upon by their families, their shipmates, and by Gloucester itself, to haul in boatloads of the large but elusive bluefin. The pressure to deliver is unforgiving -- the fishing season is short and tuna populations are dwindling -- but one "monstah" catch can reel in just as large of a payday.
