Lies, Lies, and More Lies. This was the prosecution's theme in bringing in neighbors of Susan Wright to testify against her. By exposing the many lies Susan told friends, family, and law enforcement, the State wanted the jury to question her credibility on events that led up to her husband's murder. Prosecution rested their case after a number of different neighbors and close friends testified about what they saw going on before the fatal stabbing.

After she killed her husband, Jeff, Susan was admitted to a mental health facility where she divulged to the social worker how she was physically and mentally abused in her marriage. These jurors learned more about the mental health evaluation Wright underwent. Her defense wanted to present Wright as innocent housewife and stay-at-home mom of two who was abused and tormented by her husband.

According to Kevin Conboy, Jeff's life improved for the better after he got married. Conboy went on to testify that Jeff was a great salesperson at work, very friendly and a proud father. Jurors were getting more nuance on Jeff's character and behavior along with his home life living with Susan and their two kids.

Prosecutors contended that she was laying out her story of abuse in anticipation that Jeff's remains would later be discovered. Next, a worker in Children's Services took the stand. She processed the Protective Order of an alleged child abuse incident caused by Jeff. Susan made the report of domestic violence after she stabbed her husband to death.
