Captain Planet and the Planeteers
Gaia, the spirit of the planet, assembles a diverse team of "planeteers," who are able to combine their powers to summon an elemental warrior that takes on the appearance of superhero Captain Planet. He works with the planeteers to defend Earth from pollution caused by criminals and villains. As the show's theme song says, Captain Planet is "gonna take pollution down to zero" by defeating the villains, who include the likes of Hoggish Greedly, Dr. Blight and Looten Plunder. The animated series was co-created by media mogul Ted Turner, a noted environmentalist.
S1, EP4 "Skumm Lord"
Verminous Skumm poisons the water supplies in South America; the Planeteers become infected by Skumm's disease and turn into rat hybrids.
S1, EP5 "Deadly Ransom"
The eco-villains capture Captain Planet and demand a ransom payment in the form of nuclear waste; the Planeteers plot a daring rescue mission.
S5, EP3 "The Ghost of Porkaloin Past"
Hoggish Greedly inherits his grandfather's estate and selfishly spends his new fortune against the terms of the will, which requires the money be used for environmentally-friendly projects; the Planeteers come up with a plan to change Greedly's ways.
S1, EP6 "The Conqueror"
The Planeteers fall under the sway of the charismatic Zarm; Ma-ti stays with Gaia and needs to convince the others to come back.
S1, EP3 "Beast of the Temple"
The Planeteers travel to Thailand to stop Greedly and Rigger's mining activity.
S1, EP2 "Rain of Terror"
Verminous Skumm revives a factory and creates an enormous acid rain cloud that endangers a city.
S1, EP1 "A Hero for Earth"
The spirit of the Earth, Gaia, gathers five youngsters from around the world and gives them rings that can summon Captain Planet, an environmental superhero; the newly formed Planeteers must stop Hoggish Greedly before his oil rig pollutes the coast.
