Gaia, the spirit of the planet, assembles a diverse team of "planeteers," who are able to combine their powers to summon an elemental warrior that takes on the appearance of superhero Captain Planet. He works with the planeteers to defend Earth from pollution caused by criminals and villains. As the show's theme song says, Captain Planet is "gonna take pollution down to zero" by defeating the villains, who include the likes of Hoggish Greedly, Dr. Blight and Looten Plunder. The animated series was co-created by media mogul Ted Turner, a noted environmentalist.
S4, EP19 "Planeteers Under Glass"
The Planeteers visit a lifelike simulation of Earth's environments to observe the long-term effects of pollution, but Dr. Blight traps them inside and the simulation's increasingly hostile conditions weaken their rings and Captain Planet himself.
S4, EP20 "Orangu-Tangle"
The Planeteers must stop a mother-and-son poaching duo who tears baby orangutans away from their mothers to sell them on the black market.
S4, EP21 "No Horsing Around"
Ma-Ti and his friend Red Elk, a Native American on his vision quest, find Hoggish Greedly and Rigger wrangling wild horses on protected land to sell them for slaughter and need the help of the other Planeteers to put an end to the scheme.
S5, EP1 "Twilight Ozone"
While investigating an outbreak of blindness in South American sheep, the Planeteers uncover a scheme by Duke Nukem and summon Captain Planet to stop him, but Nukem reveals a new weapon that takes down the Captain.
S4, EP18 "High Steaks"
The team must stop Looten Plunder from destroying an environmentally sustainable ranching operation.
S4, EP17 "Jail House Flock"
The tables turn on the Planeteers when Hoggish Greedly secures a legal permit from the Army Corps of Engineers to build over precious wetlands and the authorities arrest Captain Planet; the team must stop Greedly while being hunted as fugitives.
S4, EP16 "Going Bats, Man"
When the Planeteers investigate a string of bat attacks in New Mexico, they discover Looten Plunder's nephew, Robin, staged the attacks to build publicity for his upcoming movie, and must put an end to Robin's fearmongering.
