Ralph Kramden is a perpetually flustered but eternally optimistic New York City bus driver living with his wife, Alice, in a small Brooklyn apartment. Ralph's best friend is sanitation worker Ed Norton, who lives in the same building with wife Trixie.

Alice and Trixie rebel when Ralph and Ed make it clear that they are the bosses.

The Kramdens and the Nortons discover that television, instead of killing conversation, stimulates it.

Ralph finds a suitcase crammed with $100 bills and goes on a huge spending spree.

Ralph considers entering politics after he brings a criminal to justice.
