A world war comes to an abrupt halt when an advanced, abandoned alien fortress crash-lands on Earth; ten years later, an international effort rebuilds the ship into the SDF-1, but aliens called the Zentraedi interrupt its launch by staging an attack.
S1, EP2 "Countdown"
Zentraedi forces attack the island before SDF-1 can lift off; Rick rescues a girl named Minmei and attempts to escape in a Veritech fighter plane, but struggles to pilot the alien vessel, which can also transform.
