Before hosting Discovery's "Dirty Jobs," Mike Rowe had a program in San Francisco about folks on a mission -- mad scientists, eccentric collectors, devoted do-gooders -- called "Somebody's Gotta Do It." Now, CNN gives Rowe free rein to scour the country for people who, he says, "do what they do because of a weird mix of love, compulsion, obsession, dedication -- whatever it is. Those people have always interested me." The former series focused on the task, but this version spotlights the personality. Or, as he puts it: "More mission, less poop."

Mike Rowe travels to Colorado to take a crash course on cattle driving.

Mike discovers drag racing, checks out a recycled airplane home, and spends an evening in a Treehouse Treesort.

Mike Rowe heads to San Diego to join the Derby Dolls, a roller derby team where athletes range from 18 to 50; under the guidance of manager Isabelle Ringer, Mike learns footwork, balance and how to fall safely on the inclined track; given the name Skid Rowe and a lucky number 13 jersey, he discovers that while roller derby is a hard-hitting contact sport, it's also a community where women push each other to succeed.

Mike Rowe joins Washed Ashore, an organization which raises money and awareness about plastics that can cause toxic pollution in oceans.
