Gem mining can be a profitable business if someone is able to find rare gems, but it's also a dangerous occupation. The prospectors face perilous conditions that include extreme climates and weather, which can be even more dangerous in Colorado due to its elevation. That results in less oxygen and more-extreme weather than usual. The series follows Colorado miners -- including a former model -- as they search for precious gems in an attempt to find their fortune 14,000 feet above sea level.
