Treadmill Abuse Murder Trial

Christopher Gregor is charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child in the death of his 6-year-old son. Corey Micciolo was allegedly forced to run on a treadmill because his father believed he was too fat. Prosecutors believe Corey died from injuries sustained from chronic abuse.

S1, EP8 "First Grade"

Corey Micciolo's first grade teacher recalled that days before Corey lost his life his demeanor and attention in class changed hinting that there were problems happening at home. Kim Peace recalled sending him to the school nurse for his injuries and discussing his condition with other teachers. Parenting styles would be judged by this jury later in their deliberations. They've learned about how Corey was cared for by an allegedly abusive father and a mother struggling with a drug addiction.

S1, EP9 "Emergency Doctor Appointment"

The State called in Corey Micciolo's pediatrician to the stand. Dr. Nancy Deacon evaluated Corey in an emergency appointment made by his mother the day before he died. She was concerned by the bruises and the abrasions on Corey which showed a number of healing bruises on his arms, torso and Shins. What was the full health evaluation of Corey? Dr. Deacon laid it all out for jurors. She noted he had over a dozen bruises and abrasions on him but overall he appeared to be fine physically.

S1, EP10 "The Pediatrician's Evaluation"

The day before Corey Micciolo died his mother rushed him to an emergency appointment with his pediatrician. On the stand was Corey's doctor who evaluated him and noted a number of bruises he sustained. Dr. Nancy Deacon got emotional when recalling the conversation she had with Corey about the bruises on his body. She kept asking him how he got them but Corey wouldn't answer. This was her attempt to help him if he was, in fact, abused by his own father.

S1, EP11 "Dr. Nancy Deacon"

He needed more care before I would consider him safe to go home. That was Corey Micciolo's pediatrician's assessment after evaluating him the day before he died. Even after visiting with Dr. Nancy Deacon, Corey's mother, Breanna, was too worried to leave it there. She took him to the pediatric emergency room at a local hospital. She wanted to know how serious the bruises were on him and whether it was because he was being physically abused by his father, Christopher Gregor.

S1, EP7 "Family Drama"

Corey Micciolo's mother wrapped up her testimony. Jurors learned of the many times that Breanna reached out to the State's children's services over abuses her six-year-old was allegedly enduring at the hands of his father, Christopher Gregor. It was all during the times he was visiting with him. Jurors next listened to testimony from Corey's first grade teacher. She recalled how smart Corey was in her class.

S1, EP6 "Justice For Corey"

According to Corey Micciolo's mother, she took him to three different hospitals and filed an emergency order for sole custody just days before he was killed. Christopher Gregor's attorney drilled Breanna Micciolo on her ongoing drug abuse and the Facebook page Justice For Corey that she set up. Records indicate that Breanna reached out to the Department of Child Protection over 100 times in phone calls and emails reporting instances of child abuse by Corey's father in an 18-month period.

S1, EP5 "Drug Addiction"

Cross examination began on Corey Micciolo's mother. It came after the State introduced jurors to the exercise routine they argued lead to Corey's death. Breanna Micciolo admitted on the witness stand that she relapsed on her addiction to methamphetamine twice after Corey was born. She battled with the defendant, Christopher Gregor, to get full custody of her son just before he died. Court order violations became a focus for both sides in this case.

S1, EP4 "Treadmill Incident"

The Infamous video of the treadmill abuse of young Corey Micciolo was shown in full to the jury. His father, Christopher Gregor, told detectives that he pushed his son hard in the Fitness Center because he was concerned about his weight. Apparently, Corey was getting too fat. Next, what life was like in the last weeks of this six-year-old's life was relayed back to jurors. To do this--prosecutors introduced text messages between Corey's parents, Corey's bruises, and hospital visits.
