Dortmund and PSG Champions League second leg

It is do or die for Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday as the dominant force in French football tries to make serious noise in Europe once again. After countless disappointing exits in early knockout stages, PSG need to find a way to get past Borussia Dortmund and reach the quarterfinals.

The game will be played at an empty Parc des Princes because of the coronavirus outbreak. PSG ultras have already claimed they will be outside the stadium trying to make as much noise as possible, so we might have some semblance of an atmosphere.

The Black and Yellow come into this one with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg thanks to a memorable performance by Dortmund phenom Erling Haaland, who scored two goals in his first Champions League knockout game, single-handedly giving BVB the edge going into the second leg.

PSG did not play well at all in Dortmund and must find a way to put together a better performance, counting especially on Neymar to provide a big-time Champions League performance for the first time since joining the French powerhouse three years ago.

Having Kylian Mbappé would be good for Neymar and PSG, but the French striker did not train in the last two days before the match due to an illness and is still doubtful to play against Dortmund. Mbappé’s potential absence or limited impact cannot be an excuse; this PSG team is more than good enough to overturn the first leg deficit. And doing so is imperative if the Parisian club is to flip the perennial script of bad performances in big matches.
