Tennessee and Mississippi State meet on the baseball diamond on Friday to determine which team will advance to the semifinals on Saturday to face Vanderbilt for a spot in Sunday’s championship game. Tennessee, the No. 1 seed in this tournament, lost on Wednesday to Vanderbilt by a 13-4 final, sending the top seed into the loser bracket. Meanwhile, Mississippi State lost to the Commodores on Thursday, setting up this game between two teams who’ve both lost to the same team.

Tennessee is coming off of a 7-4 win over Texas A&M in the team’s last contest. Kavares Tears was 3-for-5 with four RBIs in the victory while Christian Moore, Dylan Dreiling and Cal Stark all added RBIs as well in the victory.
Mississippi State is 38-20 on the season and 17-13 in conference play. Tennessee is 47-11 on the year and 22-8 in conference play.
These teams did not meet during the regular season. Their most recent meeting came last April, with Tennessee winning 13-2. The Volunteers have a seven-game winning streak against Mississippi State, last losing in 2019.
