A champion will be crowned on Saturday night when Denver takes on Boston College in the men’s NCAA hockey championship. The Pioneers will be looking to take down the top-seeded Eagles and win the national championship for the second time in three years. They beat Minnesota State 5-1 in 2022 to win their ninth national championship. The Pioneers almost didn’t make it to the championship game as they needed overtime to beat Boston University. Tristan Broz scored in overtime to give the Pioneers the 2-1 win. It was the second time Broz scored an overtime goal in the NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers beat UMass 2-1 in the first round in overtime. They also won 2-1 in the regional finals against Cornell.

The Eagles come into Saturday on a 15-game winning steak and playing like the best team in the country.
The Eagles had little trouble in the semifinals as they shutout Michigan 4-0. The win got them to the national title game for the first time since 2012 when they beat Ferris State 4-1. That win was their fifth title in school history.
The two teams met once earlier this year with the Pioneers coming away with a 4-3 win back in October.
