Matalasi Faapito and No. 20 Mississippi State will take the field against Ava Gall and No. 8 Stanford in the Stanford Regional.
The NCAA softball tournament will kick off today with a matchup between the No. 20 ranked team in the country, Mississippi State, and the No. 8 ranked team in the nation, Stanford, at the Stanford Regional in California on Saturday afternoon. Each regional is a double-elimination tournament with a chance to advance to the Super Regionals in the next round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals finished their season with 44 wins on the year and only 13 losses. They were also 17-7 against Pac-12 teams as well. Last weekend, they participated in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament and beat California 4-2 in their first game following it up with a 2-1 loss against Utah in their second game. They were able to get an 8-6 win in their first NCAA Tournament game yesterday against Saint Mary’s. NiJaree Canady picked up win No. 19 on the year in the win after pitching 5.0 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. Ava Gall, Aly Kaneshiro, and Jade Berry all had two RBIs each in the game. Two more ladies had one RBI a piece in the win.

The Bulldogs are 34-18 overall this season and just .500 against Southeastern Conference teams this year at 12-12. They lost their first game of the conference tournament last weekend 8-4 to South Carolina in Alabama. They opened up the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win against Cal State Fullerton last night.
Aspen Wesley picked up her 15th win of the year and is now 15-6 in her 2024 campaign. She pitched 7.0 innings allowing no earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walked batters. The only run of the game was batted in by Matalasi Faapito when she drove in Sierra Sacco in the fourth inning of the game.
