The Phillies came away with the first win in the series last night 4-2 at home. Zack Wheeler picked up the win pitching 7.1 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Alec Bohm put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning scoring J.T. Realmuto. Keibert Ruiz batted in Ildemaro Vargas in the second inning to tie the game 1-1. Brandon Marsh scored in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch followed by Edmundo Sosa scoring on a Kyle Schwarber ground out to lead 3-1 at the end of the second inning. Marsh put the last Philadelphia run on the board in the bottom of the third inning scoring Bryson Stott. Washington’s Eddie Rosario scored CJ Abrams in the top of the fifth for the team’s second run, but the team didn’t put any more on the board.
