Just one point separates Chile and Bolivia in 2022 World Cup qualifying with both nations a long way from the pace being set at the top of the CONMEBOL standings after five fixtures of the campaign. Chile, of course, have significant pedigree in the international arena. Indeed, this is a group of players that has tasted continental success in recent memory, but there is a sense that they are starting to fade as a force.

There is a lot riding on this fixture for both nations, but there will be more pressure on Chile than their opponents such is the expectation in the country to qualify for the World Cup.

Chile come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw away from home to Argentina. That was a positive result for Martin Lasarte’s team, but he will want to see more in an attacking sense from a side that managed just one short on target over the course of 90 minutes. Chile have the talent in the final third to be more potent.

After this, Chile will face another match against Argentina as they start their Copa America campaign, but for the time being Alexis Sanchez and company must focus their efforts on making up for a poor start to World Cup qualification. At this point, one poor result could end Chile’s hopes of punching their ticket to Qatar.

Cesar Farias and his team have suffered a difficult start to their CONMEBOL qualification campaign, but boosted their chances of making an unlikely late run into Qatar 2022 contention with a victory over Venezuela last week.

Nonetheless, Bolivia haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 1994 and it seems unlikely that streak will end in 2022 given the way they have started their campaign to make it to Qatar 2022 with just four points to show for their first five fixtures.
