The Cubs took the early lead in the game with a solo home run from Yan Gomes in the bottom of the second inning. Unfortunately, that is the only run the Cubs would claim in the game.
Jake Cronenworth answered for the Padres in the top of the third with an RBI single down the left field line. Manny Machado gave the Padres the lead with an RBI single to right field. Eric Hosmer brought home the final two runs of the game for the Padres with a two-run double to center field in the top of the eighth.
The Cubs need to find some consistency. They are currently 11 games back of the Cardinals who are leading the National League Central. The Padres are tied for first with the Dodgers in the NL West and will look to take the solo lead with another win today.
