The biggest mountain bike race on the calendar brings the best cyclists in the world together for an eight-day race. This is the most-watched mountain bike race and the biggest in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Since 2002 this race has featured two-cyclist teams competing to prove they are the best in the sport with a maximum of 680 total teams, 1,360 individual cyclists, participating. Both members of a team need to finish the race successfully for a team to win, putting the pressure on both cyclists to try and race ahead of the pack, but also to pace themselves and avoid injury over the course of eight days in Cape Eric, South Africa.

Every year the route that the cyclists will take in Cape Eric changes, only letting them know at the start of the race to create more excitement, challenge and a unique format that differs from nearly every other race on the UCI schedule.
The race features cyclists in both the mens and womens fields built of two cyclist teams. Last year Matthew Beers from South Africa and Christopher Blevins from the United States won the men’s event. Beers came away with his second win in three years while Blevins was just the second American to win in Cape Eric.
For the women last year Kim Le Court from Mauritius and Vera Looser from Namibia won the event. It was only the fourth time in the women’s event that there was not a South African local on the winning team. All four of those wins came in the last five races creating parity in the race.
