The top five finishers at this year’s worlds earn placement into Group A while the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-place teams go to Group B along with the two qualifiers from this year’s Division 1A tournament.

Germany’s biggest victory in group play was its 1-0 triumph over Group B favorite Sweden on Monday. Jule Schiefer, Emily Nix, Bernadette Karpf and Laura Kluge lead a balanced offensive attack with two goals each, while Kluge has four points. Goalie Sandra Abstreiter (Ottawa PWHL) has a .973 save percentage in three games with a 0.67 goals-against average.

Czechia lost its games with Group A powers Canada and the United States by a combined 11-0 while beating Finland and Switzerland by a combined 10-1 count. Natálie Mlýnková (University of Vermont) leads the Czechs with four goals and six points while netminder Klára Peslarová has played all four games with a .906 save percentage and 3.00 GAA.

Teams are reseeded in the semifinals. Germany best finish at the women’s worlds was a fourth-place in 2017 while Czechia’s two bronze medals the last two years are the first in the national team’s history.
