Ole Miss snapped a 13-game SEC losing streak on Saturday, looks to win just its 2nd conference series of the season on Sunday against Auburn
Ole Miss (27-23) on Saturday won its first Southeastern Conference game since March 18, ending a 13-game SEC losing streak. On Sunday, the Rebels can secure their just their second SEC series victory of the season with a win over Auburn (25-16-1) at the Ole Miss Softball Complex in Oxford. At 4-16, Ole Miss holds last place in the 13-team conference while the Tigers fell into a tie for 11th place with Saturday’s defeat. The Rebels hold a streak of seven consecutive NCAA tournament appearances that could be in jeopardy. Auburn’s string of NCAA tourney bids stands at nine, including Women’s College World Series appearances in 2015 and 2016.

Makenna Kliethermes worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh to preserve Ole Miss’ 4-2 victory on Saturday. Two runs in each of the third and fourth innings powered the win, with Aynslie Furbush cracking a solo homer in the fourth. Jaden Pone hits .346/.411/.372, Lexie Brady leads the team with 13 homers and Furbush paces the offense with 37 RBI.
The Tigers’ runs came on sacrifice flies in the first and seventh innings. Anna Wohlers slashes .309./.410/.518 and Amelia Lech has team-highs of 10 home runs and 32 RBI.
Kliethermes (10-6) leads the Rebels with 79 innings in the circle, posting a 3.01 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 85 strikeouts. Maddie Penta (13-9) tops Auburn with 158.2 innings along with a 1.63 ERA and 0.91 WHIP, striking out 208.
