Turkey and Austria will meet on Monday in preparation for UEFA Euros.
With the 2024 Paris Olympics just months away, teams are beginning to prepare for the tournament with international friendlies. Neither Austria nor Turkey have qualified to play in Paris, but they will meet on Monday afternoon in preparation for UEFA Euros which will begin in June and run until July. Turkey’s last time on the pitch resulted in a tight 1-0 loss to Hungary back in February. The teams played a scoreless first half, but Hungary scored just after the break to take the lead. Turkey finished the game with 16 shots, six of which were on net, but could not sneak one by the Hungary goalkeeper to tie things up.

Austria’s most recent game was played against Slovakia last month and resulted in a 2-0 win. Christoph Baumgartner scored in the first minute of play after receiving service from Michael Gregoritsch. The game remained 1-0 until the 82nd minute of play when Andreas Weimann found the back of the net with an assist from Romano Schmid to extend the lead to two goals. Slovakia was able to get 13 shots off in the game, but only two made it on frame and Patrick Pentz was able to keep the net clear with ease.
The last time Austria and Turkey met dates back to 2016 in an international friendly and it was a tightly contested match that went in Turkey’s favor in a 2-1 win.
