After a disappointing walkoff for the St. Louis Cardinals, they will try to bounce back in this series opener against the Detroit Tigers on Monday.
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers start a three-game series on Monday night. The Tigers go for their third win in a row after beating the Kansas City Royals in their last series two out of three. Detroit ended the series in the rubber match with a 4-1 win. Wenceel Perez hit a two-run homer to give the Tigers their first lead of the night in the first inning. Detroit never looked back after Kansas City couldn’t score after the first. It was Perez’s first homer in the big leagues. The Tigers will be trying to get off on the right foot to start this series with their probable pitcher Kenta Maeda. This is Maeda’s first season in Detroit after coming over from Minnesota. The veteran righty is looking for his first win in a Tigers uniform with a 0-1 record and a 5.96 ERA.
