Playoff hopefuls face off as the Devils take winning streak to upstate New York to take on the Sabres
Winners of four of their last five games, the New Jersey Devils wrap a three-game road trip tonight inside KeyBank Center as they aim for the season sweep against the Buffalo Sabres. The Devils sit five points behind Washington for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with nine games remaining in the regular season while Buffalo is clinging to their dwindling playoff hopes as they are eight points back as the regular season nears its end. New Jersey has won three games in a row against the Sabres but did beat the Devils in their last trip to Buffalo.

The Devils rank 10th in the NHL scoring 3.30 goals per game paced by winger Jesper Bratt and center Jack Hughes who have combined for 143 points this season. Bratt leads the team with a career-high 49 assists on the season after tallying three helpers in Tuesday’s 6-3 win at Toronto and has a goal and two assists in two games against Buffalo this season.
In his fourth year with the Sabres, goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has posted career-highs in wins, goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts. Luukkonen’s five shutouts is tied for third-best in the NHL.
Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin leads the team with 35 assists but has been held without an assist in five consecutive games, tied for his longest assist drought since a five-game span in late December.
