Bukayo Saka and England will take the pitch against Romelu Lukaku and Belgium
The men’s English national team will take their home field at Wembley Stadium in London, England, in an international friendly against the men’s national team of Belgium today. The English team is coming off of the 2024 European Championship Qualifying group stage. It played two games in the month of March beating Italy and Ukraine. It started qualifying with Italy and took the country down 2-1 with goals from Declan Rice in the 13th minute and Harry Kane in the 44th minute on a converted penalty. Luke Shaw picked up a red card and in the 80th minute and Italy still couldn’t tie the game despite 10 minutes of 11 vs 10. In the second game of qualifying, they took down Ukraine in shutout fashion 2-0. Kane put the first goal in the 37th minute to go up 1-0. Bukayo Saka put the game away in the 40th minute to lead 2-0. A scoreless second half ensued. The last time these two teams took the field together, Belgium won 2-0 in a UEFA Nations League game with Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens scoring the two goals.

Belgium also played two group-stage games this month as a part of the European Championship Qualifying. They beat Sweden in a shutout 3-0. Romelu Lukaku had all three goals for Belgium scoring in the 35th, 49th, and 82nd minutes in a dominant effort by the forward.
Their next game was a nailbitter beating Germany 3-2. Yannick Carrasco and Lukaku scored in the first 10 minutes to put Belgium up 2-0. After a 44th-minute penalty, Germany was back within one. Belgium inched forward again with a goal from Kevin De Bruyne in the 78th minute. Germany scored in the 87th but couldn’t get the game-tying goal.
