Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics look to close out the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the first round today.

The Boston Celtics (3-1) have the opportunity to close out the Miami Heat (1-3) in Game 5 of the first round after being upset by them last season. In the four years since Miami signed Jimmy Butler, who is out again today with an MCL, Miami has defeated Boston in two of the last three seasons. Now Jayson Tatum and company are on the verge of closing out Miami here in Game 5 at home to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Boston won games one, three and four by a combined 54 points in large part due to its balanced offense, defense and ability to get out to a strong start early in games. In this series Boston has outscored Miami by 59 points in the first half to build momentum and get off to hot starts.

Boston’s offensive balance has been better than any team in the playoffs so far in the first round. In all four games the team has had a different leading scorer with Tatum, Jaylen Brown and most recently, Derrick White all having big games.

In Game 4 White went off for not only a playoff career-high but an overall career-high of 38 points. He finished the game with four rebounds, three assists and three blocks along with eight made three-pointers in the win. That is what makes Boston so dangerous this season. While Tatum and Brown get the majority of the attention, White, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingas and the team’s depth all can take over a game too.

For Miami the defense has played well overall this series allowing just 105.2 points per game, but its offense has struggled scoring under 100 points in three of four games and averaging 94.2 points overall. To extend the series today Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and the rest of Miami will need to get more out of the offense.
