Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx take on Jewell Loyd and the Seattle Storm today.

While all of the attention to start the season is on superteams and a potential superstar rookie, the Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm kick off the regular season under the radar. This season Minnesota is looking to build on the momentum from last season where the team finished 19-15 down the stretch, made the playoffs and was led by MVP candidate Napheesa Collier. They have an exciting young roster with Collier and Diamond Miller along with veterans Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, Natisha Hiedeman and Alanna Smith that will look to get off to a better start this season.

Seattle spent the offseason collecting All-Stars and All-WNBA caliber players after spending just one season without legend Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart who retired and left in the offseason respectively in 2023. Seattle added former MVP Nneka Ogwumike and six-time All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith in the offseason to join Seattle’s young All-Star duo.

Jewell Loyd is coming off a career-season where she led the WNBA in scoring (24.7 points per game) and made her fifth All-Star Game. Loyd and teammate Ezi Magbegor made the All-Star team and were able to showcase their talent, opening the door for Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith to want to join them forming another potential superteam in the Western Conference.

Seattle has a projected starting lineup of Diggins-Smith, Loyd, Ogwumike, Magbegor and one of either Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu or Mercedes Russell to give them size or Sami Whitcomb to stretch the floor this team is built to make for the franchise’s first WNBA Finals appearance without Sue Bird on the roster.
