    After splitting the first two games of their series, No. 23 Nebraska (23-9) and Rutgers (21-13) play the rubber game at Bainton Field in Piscataway, New Jersey on Sunday. The Cornhuskers picked up a win on Saturday and, at 6-2, trail Illinois by a half-game in the Big Ten Conference race. The Scarlet Knights are tied with Northwestern for last place at 2-6. Nebraska last played in the NCAA tournament in 2021 and has made the short trip to Omaha for the College World Series three times, most recently in 2005. Rutgers hasn’t gone to the NCAA tourney since 2007 and made its lone CWS appearance in 1950.

    The Huskers broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the third inning and just kept scoring in a 16-1 rout on Saturday afternoon. Ben Columbus homered and drove in five runs in the win while Mason McConnaughey fanned nine in seven scoreless innings. Case Sanderson slashes .375/.526/.518, Josh Caron has team-highs of six home runs and 38 RBI and Riley Silva has swiped 21 bases so far.

    The Scarlet Knights scored their lone run on a fielder’s choice ground ball in the eighth inning, getting nine hits while leaving eight runners on base. Josh Kuroda-Grauer hits .435/.491/.619 with 18 stolen bases and Tony Santa Maria leads the offense with nine home runs and 35 RBI.

    Right-hander Christian Coppola (4-3) takes the ball for Rutgers to close the series. In 36.2 innings, Coppola has 39 strikeouts, a 6.38 ERA and 1.66 WHIP. Drew Christo (1-2) makes the start for Nebraska. He has a 4.84 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 35.1 innings.
