The Republic of Ireland and Switzerland will meet in an international friendly on Tuesday.
With the 2024 UEFA Euros just months away, teams are beginning to prepare for the tournament with international friendlies. Neither the Republic of Ireland nor Switzerland have qualified to play in Paris, but they will meet on Tuesday afternoon as Switzerland prepares for Euros. Ireland finished qualifiers in fourth place in its group with a record of 2-0-6. The team’s most recent game resulted in a scoreless draw against Belgium a few days ago. While Ireland was able to get off 11 shots in the game, only one ended up on frame and was easily saved by Belgium’s goalkeeper. Switzerland finished Euro Qualifiers with one win, one loss and four draws which was enough to advance out of group play and into UEFA Euros. The last time Switzerland took to the pitch was in a match against Denmark a few days ago and the game resulted in a scoreless draw between the teams. The Swiss finished the game with nine shots, two of them making it on frame, but could not beat Denmark’s goalie to go ahead. On the flip side, Yann Sommer also saw two shots in net and made both of the saves to walk away with a draw.
It has been five years since these two teams last met and the game resulted in a 2-0 win for Switzerland.
