In Game 1, the Mets picked up a 4-3 win by scoring a go-ahead run to break a tie in the seventh inning. That run came off a solo home run from Mets center fielder and leadoff hitter Brandon Nimmo.
That wasn’t all the damage Nimmo did for the Mets in this series. On Tuesday he homered again – this time delivering a three-run blast – that kicked off what ended up being a six-run fifth inning for the Mets that erased an early 3-0 deficit in an eventual 7-5 win.
Things will get tougher for the Mets lineup on Wednesday though. Righty Sonny Gray will take the hill for the Cardinals and brings in a 4-1 record with a 0.89 ERA. New York will start lefty Jose Quintana.
