The Cubs look to bounce back in game two of this four-game set against the Mets.
This home stand for the Cubs has not gone according to plan. The Cubs dropped two against Baltimore and the opener against the New York Mets to lose their seventh straight. The Mets have won back-to-back games and kept a 2.5-game pace in the increasingly crowded NL East. The Braves and Phillies aren’t going anywhere, so the Mets must keep it up.

New York won the opener 8-0 on Thursday, primarily due to a great start by Carlos Carrasco. He went six innings and struck out six while giving up no runs to improve his record to 10-4. Pete Alonso kept doing what he does best and hit a bomb while Brandon Nimmo went 3-4 and tacked on another homer from the leadoff spot to help earn the Mets an easy win.
Chicago still has time to rebound especially since they will start Marcus Stroman. While the former Met isn’t experiencing the numbers he’s used to, he has the veteran experience to break this losing streak. Especially against his old team. They’ll have their hands full, though, with planned New York starter Taijuan Walker who is 7-2 with a 2.63 ERA.
