Winners of three games in a row and five of their last six, the Houston Astros continue their 10-game homestand Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics who have lost eight of their last 10 games. The Astros won the first two games of this four-game mid-week series outscoring Oakland 11-3 and tonight turn to veteran southpaw Framber Valdez (2-1, 3.64 ERA) in search of his second win in as many starts. The Athletics will turn to Aaron Brooks, who will make his debut with the A’s after being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas, as the Athletics pitching staff attempts to solve its injury woes.

Valdez has had a solid start to the 2024 campaign, allowing three earned runs or less in four of his first five outings despite missing most of April due to elbow inflammation. A two-time All-Star, Valdez helped the Astros win a World Series in 2022, including starting the series clinching Game 6 where he struck out nine batters in six innings of work.
Oakland second baseman Abraham Toro leads the team with his .295 batting average and has a hit in 10 of his 12 appearances in May, with nine multi-hit games in that span.
Dating back to Aug. 2022, Houston has won 18 of the last 22 meetings against Oakland, including seven of the last nine played inside Minute Maid Park.
