Sacramento became the Giants’ top minor-league affiliate in 2015 after a 14-year association with the A’s. The top-ranked prospect set to play for the RiverCats this year is right-hander Mason Black, who will start for San Francisco in Sunday’s exhibition. He is the eighth-best prospect in the system according to MLB Pipeline.

Other top prospects ticketed for Sacramento include right-hander Trevor McDonald (No. 14 in the organization), outfielder Wade Meckler (No. 18), right-hander R.J. Davovich (No. 24), right-hander Kai-Wei Teng (No. 25) and left-hander Erik Miller (No. 30).

The Giants also signed outfielder/DH Jorge Soler, who hit 36 home runs for the Miami Marlins last season, and hired manager Bob Melvin from the San Diego Padres to replace fired Gabe Kapler in the dugout. Left-hander Robbie Ray, acquired from the Seattle Mariners in a January trade, is expected to be ready to pitch by midseason after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May.

    Regional restrictions may apply.
